The Alternate Language Study Option (ALSO) offers self-directed study of less commonly taught languages.

Students can study Korean for 0.5 credits or explore more than 110 languages through Transparent Language Online for no credit.

  • Korean: Students work independently with learning materials and prepare to participate actively in small-group conversation sessions. Courses generally extend through the second year, subject to staffing. There is no major or minor in Korean.
  • Transparent Language Online: Explore languages including American Sign Language (ASL) and Indigenous languages through self-paced lessons and activities that build listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Interested? Complete our short form to tell us what you’d like to study and why. You can also request help finding a conversation partner.
